Upper School Bible teacher and Dean of Students, Ms. Kristin Smith, was awarded a Ignatian Educator Award at Xavier High School on Wednesday, April 26.
Geneva School alumni and Xavier High School freshman, Timothée Kampouris, submitted an essay in which he described his favorite educator and the qualities that made her great. Those teachers were invited to a special awards ceremony in the Xavier Commons, where excerpts of the students' nominations were read.
This is an excerpt of Timothée's essay:
"Since she was my Bible teacher, she always encouraged us to look at life through a Christian lens. She always reminded us to 'leave a space better than we found it', and this went for everything. Teaching us responsibility, she kept us accountable for everything we said we would do....she was engaging in every lesson, no matter what the topic was. There was always a funny or emotional story to go with the meaning of her classes. Our class was very relaxed, and we all knew her so well over time that she could relate to us in just the right way. It was a comfortable learning space where we were not afraid to ask or say anything."
Congratulations to Ms. Smith!
