A Campaign for Our City and Our School
This year's Geneva Fund, like everything else this year, has been altered. Typically our fundraising endeavors include a Geneva Fund drive in the fall and the highly anticipated Geneva Gala in the spring. With the likelihood of in-person events remote, we are launching a giving campaign for the year that encompasses greater need and greater scope: To love one another in the time of COVID.
Our overarching mission at Geneva School is that we teach students to love God and love learning. In a year marred with pandemic-induced fear, extreme partisanship, and racial tensions, we also want our students to know what it means to love one another.
So we ask the question, how do we love in the time of COVID?
We do that by demonstrating resolve in our mission and commitment to our city.
Since 1996 Geneva School has existed to serve New York City families and provide a time-proven classical education within a biblical worldview. A key component of the School's founding vision was to make possible a Geneva School education for as many qualified students as possible, thus ensuring a student body rich in diversity, both ethnically and socioeconomically. Throughout the years, the Geneva Gala has been the primary fundraiser for the Scholarship Fund, in addition to long-term partnerships with donors and foundations. In this way, many ministry families have found an academic haven for their children, and the School has propelled gospel impact in New York City.
We have never wavered from this mission, persevering through previous tragedies of 9/11 and the 2008 financial collapse. Even while operating during these recessionary periods, we maintained a balanced budget. This time is different, however. The challenges presented by COVID are myriad and unprecedented.
New York City has endured a direct hit from the pandemic, disproportionate to the rest of the country. Although the financial fallout and rippling effects upon our city are still unknown, our school community has witnessed significant changes this school year. Families relocated during the pandemic, moved back to home countries, and reconsidered enrollment. Our aim, as it has been for 25 years, is to "seek the peace and prosperity of the city" (Jeremiah 29:4-7) and to continue facilitating a gospel movement in New York City.
